Apple sold a whopping 10 million iPhone 6s in one week after the new smartphone debuted and it's very likely a good number of buyers are ex-Android smartphone users.
So to help all the new Apple phone owners learn iOS, and avoid snags in syncing files and data, Tech Times offers up insight to make the migration effort a bit easier.
Contacts, Mail and Calendars
Android users most likely used a Google account on their Android device to sync contacts, mail and calendars. Thankfully, Google accounts do play well with Apple devices. Simply go to the settings app, and then tap on "Mail, Contacts and Calendars." The add your username and password. In the server field, for a Google account, enter "m.google.com."
Photos
Transferring photos is a little more difficult than handling contacts. With photos users cannot simply enter a username and password to sync them. But thankfully users don't have to sync photos manually, either. There are a number of apps to help with the process, one of them being PhotoSync. Using PhotoSync, users just have to ensure the app is installed on both the Android and the iOS device and that both devices are working off the same Wi-Fi network. The user then selects which photo or folders to send over, chooses which device to send it to, and the photos are on their way.
Music
To transfer music to an iOS device, simply plug the Android device to the computer and transfer the music files to a folder on the computer. Then, import the music into iTunes. Unplug the Android handset, plug in the new iPhone, click on iTunes, and then sync the music over.
Documents
Documents are the most complex to sync. The first step is to create an iCloud account. Then, sync the files from the Android phone in the same way you did the music but up to the iCloud account. To do this, click on the Pages, Numbers and Keynote app and open the appropriate files: Word documents for Pages, Excel documents for Numbers and PowerPoint documents for Keynote.
If you used Google Docs, Sheets and Slides, then it's just a matter of installing the Google docs apps and logging into your account. The files, which were saved in Google Drive, will then be available on the new device.
Apps
Apps are not able to be moved from one device to another, but the good news is most apps now come in both an iOS and an Android version. In many apps, a user has created an account using a shared app like Facebook. So sometimes, by logging in using the same share app, you can get access to data. This won't work for all, but it does in some cases.
