The company stated that the new AI product recognition feature will be the first of the AI-powered updates that will soon come to its e-commerce platforms in the near future. According to The Verge, fashion will also be part of the innovation. The social media platform said that Facebook "AI fashion stylist" can be a big help to many Facebook users. The AI fashion stylist can provide personalized shopping recommendations based on the user's daily online suggestions and wardrobes, their scheduled agendas, or the weather.
"This is something I've wanted to build since I watched the movie Clueless," said Tamara Berg, a research scientist ot Facebook. "They really imagined everything back in 1995, but the technology I think is now finally ready to make it come to life."
Facebook clarified that their new production recognition tool called "GrokNet" is different from other recognition tools of other websites or apps. GrokNet can identify tens of thousands of different attributes in an image ranging from specific brands to simpler things such as size and color, making the tools scope more effective and accurate.
Groknet, which was already deployed on the marketplace of Facebook, helps users to automatically identify what the items contain by generating short descriptions allowing the users to quickly list down the products. The users can upload a photo of any items they desire. A couch will be listed as a "black, leather, sectional sofa" as suggested by Facebook Marketplace.
