The Unexpected Announcement From Disney Plus

A tweet coming from Rick Riordan posted today on social media giant Twitter went with an exciting announcement that nobody expected. It came with a short 18-second video with Riordan and his wife, Becky, as well as a follow-up tweet saying:

"Hey Percy Jackson fans, for the past decade, you've worked hard to champion a faithful on-screen adaptation of Percy Jackson's world. Some of you have even suggested it would be a great series for Disney Plus. We couldn't agree more! We can't say much more at this stage but we are very excited about the idea of a live-action series of the highest quality, following the storyline of the original Percy Jackson five-book series, starting with The Lightning Thief in season one. Rest assured that Becky & I will be involved in person in every aspect of the how. There will be much more news in the future, but for now, we have a lot of work to do! Buckle up, demigods. It's going to be a fantastic, exciting ride!"

Just the idea of Percy Jackson being handled by Disney has been talked about behind closed doors ever since Disney has acquired 20th Century Fox. Even Riordan has spoken out about his hypothetical projects in his blog.

So when Disney Plus launched, fans of Percy Jackson took to Twitter. They used the hashtag #DisneyPlusAdaptPercyJackson along with a petition showing that people were interested in this becoming a real deal, so scratch that as one win for the fans amongst corporate giants.

A Brief Background To The Percy Jackson Movie Franchise

Fans who were able to read the book first before watching the movie were mostly disappointed with since a lot was missing, and changes were made to fit a linear story that would fit in just a few hours. With that said, the first of the books that fans would grow to love was released way back in 2005, by author Rick Riordan.

The core series has a total of five books that focused on the adventures of Percy and his friends, including Annabeth Chase, a daughter of Athena, alongside a satyr named Grover. After this, a lot of spin-off series blended not only Greek gods, but also Roman mythos and Egyptian and Norse mythos, which captured the minds and imagination of fans around the world.

The last book for the core series of Percy Jackson is said to be released this September titled, Trials of Apollo. There also seems to be a musical adaptation of The Lightning Thief, which premiered Off-Broadway back in 2017 with positive reviews.

So if you're a fan of Percy Jackson's books and the world he lives with, this is a win. If you're just a bystander who enjoys a good watch, then this will be the right one for you. Let's wait for a bit until more details are leaked out regarding the series in the meantime.
