It was on April 26, 2015 at a San Francisco Film Society event, when assistant director Guillermo del Toro reportedly told attendees of the event that Silent Hills had been cancelled. On the following day, The actor and lead character for the game, Norman Reedus also made statements on Twitter and stated that the game had been cancelled. The same day, Konami announced that P.T. would be pulled from the PlayStation Store on April 29, 2015.
This had left fans of the franchise in a full on magnitude of disappointment, considering how highly anticipated the game was in reality. It has been almost five years since it's cancelation and there were rumors of it being brought back to life.
How True Is It?
There was a new report revolving around these rumors, in accordance to that, Konami and PlayStation are currently banding together to bring back Hideo Kojima's cancelled Silent Hills game. In addition to a Silent Hill reboot at SIE japan Studio, PlayStation is reportedly trying to fix the torn relationship between Kojima and Konami following their fallout in 2015. With that being said, the report notes that apart from the Silent Hill reboot, the resurrection of Silent Hills -- also known as P.T. -- is not yet a done deal. However, presumably it is not a matter of if, although given that PlayStation and Konami are reportedly banding together on the said Silent Hill reboot.

It also seems like Konami and Sony will be funding the games development in equal parts if does end up happening that is. Sony have reportedly pitched the game as a narrative, driven title to Kojima and might be promising him full creative control over the rumored reboot.
New platform to be explored
The report also states that its sources mention that the game will make use of the next-gen PlayStation VR headset for PS5. it seems as the right fit since the horror genre makes perfect sense for it. It also states that the game will be playable without VR.
What fans should be expecting?
The reports are yet to be verified and should not be taken seriously by fans of the game. Although it does give some hope to those who contributed to its major buzz and demand.
