CES 2015: Sony Unveils Its New 4K Lineup

Sony has obviously been in the news a lot lately with the recent hack of its entertainment arm, Sony Pictures. Though Sony CEO Kazuo Harai did acknowledge the hack before the press conference officially began, the products that are going to be on display during CES 2015 took center stage.

The main takeaway from Sony's press conference is that the company is investing in 4K technology and investing in it hard. The first product unveiled was the X900C series 4K TV, which, at only 0.2 inches thick, is the world's thinnest series of TV sets. Even looking at the TV from a distance, the clarity of the screen and how unbelievably thin it is made it a crowd-pleaser. Many of Sony's smart TVs will also be equipped with Google's new TV platform Android TV.

In addition to devices that let you watch video in 4K, Sony is also bringing us gadgets that allow us to create video in 4K. At a retail price of only $1,000, the Sony 4K Handycam may be the cheapest way to get professional quality video footage out in the market today. It's also about 30 percent lighter and 20 percent smaller than Sony's current video camera model.

Many companies seem eager to have some of the success of GoPro rub off on them, and Sony is no exception. The company announced its 4K Action Cam at its CES 2015 press conference. You can take this little cam with you as you go surfing, climb a mountain or any other activity you can think of, all while capturing high-quality video. Legendary skateboarder Tony Hawk was at the press conference to tell us all about it and also announce that we should expect a new console game from him this year.

Speaking of trends, Sony is also stepping up its wearables game with some new devices. One is the new stainless steel edition of the SmartWatch 3 launching next month. In case that style doesn't suit you, Sony will also launch a modular holder, which lets you attach any watch straps you like to the SmartWatch 3. The company also teased the concept model for its Smart B-Trainer, an all-in-one sports headset that's like a fitness tracker, trainer and headphones in one device.

These devices sound so cool, it almost makes us forget that whole hack thing ever happened. Almost.
