BCIT Graduate Develops An Interactive Real-Time Coronavirus Map That is Unlike Any Other Major News Org

The flare-up of COVID-19 or Coronavirus has gotten a lot worse these past few weeks. Major events have been canceled, grocery stores were wiped out clean for supplies, and the number of confirmed cases and total deaths have skyrocketed, but no one really knows the exact and the most up-to-date information about this as news tends to have a slight delay in that area. This is where the British Columbia Institute of Technology graduate, Curtis Kim steps in.

Data published by major news organizations are not up to speed.

When the coronavirus outbreak had begun peaking on every news outlet, online journals, and news reports worldwide, Kim, as any other concerned person, has constantly been trying to get information about the virus. Though it seems that something is pretty off about all the headlines with regards to this matter. Kim then realized that all these data published are not up to speed.

Kim has stated that "I kept Googling and searching the numbers, and I felt like, this isn't only me who cares about the virus and wants to see the most up-to-date information. I thought it would be great if there was one platform that has all the data." This is where he started to think of a better way to help the public get real-time news and numbers about the virus that is better than any news headline.

He created a COVID-19 online tracker

He came up and developed his own Coronavirus tracker and interactive map based on a lot of data from verified sources, which launched a few days ago online. In the site, you can see how the number of cases, total deaths, recovery, and the lethally rate percentage is updated regularly and multiple times a day with information also provided by Canada's federal government, the World Health Organization, and John Hopkins University.

The website has already drawn in and captivated hundreds of unique visitors ever since it gained light in the public eye, from Matero Vancouver and the Greater Toronto Area which proved the legitimacy of this tracker and how helpful it has been in giving the people regularly updated data and information about the novel Coronavirus. This includes data of recovered patients, which the news media does not highlight that often.

There you can see the on the top spot. We have China with 80,699 confirmed cases with 3,097 death and total recovery of 57,331. Next is Itay with 7,373 confirmed, 366 deaths and 622 recovered, and the third, which is South Korea having 7,313 confirmed, 50 deaths, and 130 recovered. Every other country on the tracker is on the list as well.

Curtis Kim came from South Korea originally, a country that is now third on the list of overall coronavirus infections. Kim says that the situation in South Korea is very serious now compared to other countries. He hopes that the information he has been trying to share on his tracker can help the public be prepared if something happens.
