Coronavirus or COVID-19 has now put the world in a paralyzed mode since it already caused over 90,000 confirmed victims and more than 3,000 deaths across the globe, as of Mar. 3.
If you think that you cannot help other people with this viral disease's increasing rate, you're wrong. There is a lot of stuff that you can do to protect yourself and other people from further spread of the viral COVID-19. You can even formulate a Coronavirus cure for the people! Don't know how? Here it is.
Be a hero and save the world from Coronavirus using this app!
Washing your hands regularly, wearing face masks, and such are not the only things you can do to stop spread the COVID-19. You can even go to the source instead!
An app developed by University of Washington and was first released in 2008, is now back on its track to allow their smartphone app users to help them create a Coronavirus cure that has the best possibility of killing the virus instantly-- since there is still no vaccines for the disease.
The app named Foldit is a "free scientific discovery game that lets you contribute to important biochemistry research." In this case, players will be tasked to create research about which antiviral proteins will get Coronavirus killed on a human body.
Since this is an interactive game, all players anywhere in the world can get to access and download the app. So how can you play it?
How Foldit works
Foldit works like a normal app on smartphones. You have an objective, target goal, and rules.
"Coronaviruses display a 'spike' protein on their surface, which binds tightly to a receptor protein found on the surface of human cells," explains the puzzle brief. "Once the coronavirus spike binds to the human receptor, the virus can infect the human cell and replicate. In recent weeks, researchers have determined the structure of the 2019 coronavirus spike protein and how it binds to human receptors. If we can design a protein that binds to this coronavirus spike protein, it could be used to block the interaction with human cells and halt infection!"
In layman's term, find a protein that will match to the coronavirus spike for the disease to be blocked from entering the human body.
Once a player gets to successfully created the best result, the cure will be manufactured and tested at the Institute for Protein Design at Seattle.
When it was first released, the app was shaky for most people that downloaded the game. Now, it is back on track and can be downloaded through Windows, OSX, and Linux.
