In the United States, the highest minimum salary per hour that a regular American worker may get is from Seattle. The state now proposed $15 per hour on each of the state's employees. This rate is way below compared to what the proclaimed 'America's best boss' has been giving to his employees with a starting minimum salary of $70,000.

You need 70k to stay happy on a job; Here's why this boss puts everyone on 70k minimum salary

In a special report made by BBC, Dan Price -- a young entrepreneur that owned credit card company Gravity Payments-- was just a typical white American boss back then. He went to his workplace with an expensive sports car and lived all his life in a beautiful house overlooking Seattle's Puget Sound. At age 31, he became a millionaire when his company earned 2,000 customers, which gives him a salary of $1.1m every year.

Price does not care for what kind of environment his employees went through every day to get to their workplaces. This mindset, however, changed one day.

In 2015, Price finally applied the 70k minimum salary to all his employees. The young CEO knew that to keep up with this maintaining salary, he needs to personally give up part of his own salary, mortgage his two houses, and let go of his stocks and savings.

However, after a few years, the sacrifice of Price went on a successful route. Employees of Gravity Payments became more passionate about their jobs, which resulted in the company's value of payments from over $3 billion a year; it is now producing $10 billion yearly.

The lives of his employees began to be more financially-secured with the help of his 70k minimum salary.

"Before the $70,000 minimum wage, we were having between zero and two babies born per year amongst the team," he says. "And since the announcement - and it's been only about four-and-a-half years - we've had more than 40 babies."

A population of 10 percent from his company now able to have their own homes even if Seattle offers the most expensive rent in the country.

"When money is not at the forefront of your mind when you're doing your job, it allows you to be more passionate about what motivates you," said Rosita Barlow, director of sales at Gravity.

Price wants to make a difference in the U.S by being an inspiration for other companies

Price mentioned in the BBC that there are a lot of temptations when it comes to his company's salary disbursement. He knows that if he changed the 70k salary to his employees, he might now be one of the richest men alive in Forbes magazine.

"I'm the same age as Mark Zuckerberg, and I have dark moments where I think, 'I want to be just as rich as Mark Zuckerberg, and I want to compete with him to be on the Forbes list. And I want to be on the cover of Time magazine, making lots of money.' All these greedy things are tempting."

However, for now, he aims that his story became an inspiration to most companies on giving a much higher salary to their employees.

"It's not like it's easy to just turn down. But my life is so much better," said him.
