Novel Coronavirus or COVID-19 has now killed more than 2,000 persons and even resulted in over 80,000 confirmed victims around the world. This number is sadly continuously increasing over time. In China, however, a little sign of hope was reported when a 17-day old baby-- first diagnosed with Coronavirus -- is now happily healed from the disease, without needing any medication from the hospital.
Don't cry! 17-day old baby survives COVID-19 -- a new sign of hope for humanity?
Reported via Daily Mail UK, on Feb. 5, a 17-day old Chinese baby girl named Xiao Xiao was born with an infection in her respiratory system and minor myocardial damage in Wuhan-- the capital city of the outbreak. The doctors from the Wuhan Children's Hospital, then, confirmed that the baby was diagnosed with confirmed Coronavirus on her body.
According to Dr. Zeng Lingkong, director of the Department of Neonatology at the hospital, since Xiao Xiao is too young to take any medicine on her body and her symptoms are not yet scientifically verified, the hospital decided not to give any antibiotic medications to heal her body. As said, they decided to let Xiao Xiao recover on her own.
"She did not have obvious difficulties in breathing, did not cough or have fevers; therefore, we only gave her treatment for her myocardial condition," said Dr. Zeng on a state broadcaster for CCTV.
As reported via People's Daily, on Friday, Feb. 21-- exactly 17 days after she was diagnosed-- a miracle happened with the life of Xiao Xiao when she successfully regained her body by testing negative in three consecutive nucleic acid detection tests.
She was the youngest person ever to survive the viral disease, as of today.
"The symptoms, signs, and chest radiographs were normal and met the discharge criteria. She even grew bigger and fatter here," said Dr. Zeng.
Pregnant women worry about their babies in Coronavirus-affected countries
There are reports that pregnant women that are diagnosed with Coronavirus or located in the most affected countries may have to face the probabilities that their babies might get the same viral disease. However, this is not yet scientifically proven by health experts.
On a special report made by the New York Times, pregnant women around the world seemed to be more worried about not having a safe labor delivery aside from the fact that their children might get the disease.
A lot of pregnant women, reportedly, are now more worried about the fact that there are a lot of hospitals that are now understaffed or already closed down due to the massive impact of the viral disease on their country.
A 40-year old pregnant woman named Jane Huang from Wuhan sadly states on NYT that she feared about the delivery of her baby. She said that hospitals are currently not open for pregnant women in their district.
"I worry every day about whether my child will die in my belly. I worry if there is an early delivery, it will not be able to survive," Ms. Huang said by phone on NYT.
