If you are one of the 157 million subscribers, if the stats are to be believed, then you must have noticed something new on the home screen. Netflix now has a daily top 10 that is the most popular in your country, like most music charts.

Why the change now

Netflix has a pretty good algorithm that does its job well in tailoring recommendations for its viewers. People have been interested in what other shows people around them are watching as well besides what they usually go to. Here is where Netflix's top 10 list comes in the picture.

Netflix is going to make public the information about what others in their respective countries or region enjoy watching. This feature gives the user an idea of what to watch with the rest of the world is watching.

The list refreshes daily

The new Top 10 list will feature as a number row on user's homepages previewing the most popular TV shows, series, and movies. "the position of the row will vary depending on how relevant the shows and films are to you."

Also, dedicated banners for the service's Top 10 movies and shows will be featured in Netflix's section for each category. A unique Top 10 badge will also be available, which will make it easier for users to browse the service and identify that they are indeed part of the Top 10.

What is the list for

As stated on a blog post by Netflix on their website: "We're constantly looking for ways to make Netflix better. It's why we've been experimenting with the top 10 lists in Mexico and the UK for the last six-plus months. Members in both countries have found them useful, so we are now rolling them out to even more.

When you watch a great movie or TV show, you share it with family and friends or talk about it at work so that other people can enjoy it too. We hope these top 10 lists will help create more of these shared moments, while also helping all of us find something to watch more quickly and easily. "

So the goal is simple enough and will hopefully find traction for people to share the series and recommend Netflix as their go-to streaming service.

Netflix struggling against other competitors

Netflix is used to fluctuating numbers when it comes to their viewership and membership in recent times since 2019. Disney+and HBO Max is coming fast on Netflix's heels with the things they have in store for subscribers that will be in direct competition, which will split the viewership for sure. As Netflix is banking on its original movies or series, there are still several things they need to fix to keep the customers satisfied in the long run.

This Top 10 feature is a good idea but an outdated one. You can't help but wonder if it's too late for the streaming service to provide additional content until the competitors step up and take all its subscribers.
