On Feb. 4, gaming website called Respawn posted an article that showed what possibly a major leak of Sony's Playstation 5's launch title game.
It was mentioned in the article that the said leak was spotted by a lot of fans on PS5's new websites that were only launched on Tuesday, Feb. 4. However, a contradicting article was also posted via Games Radar, on Feb. 5, that said to be the explanation behind the theory.
[REVEAL] Will this iconic game from Apple II be PS5's launch game?
Sony has not yet revealed any information -- aside from the PS5 logo-- regarding their newest and highly-anticipated gaming console. With this, a lot of leaked information already circulated online, just like the issue of "Starblaster" being PS5's launch game for 2020.
This is the information that Respawn mentioned in their article. According to them, they found the name of Starblaster or Starblaster 2 written on the website codes of PS5's websites.
"It was a quite challenging game as far as we can see. Its possible sequel was seen in the PlayStation 5's website code. It must be noted that my knowledge of website code and HTML is pretty much non-existent, so Starblaster 2 could be the name of some font or tool used to create a website, although I couldn't find anything of the sort," written on Respawn.
What is Starblaster game?
Starblaster is a 2-D shooting game made for Apple II in 1982. The goal of the game is simple. You just have to avoid and shoot all the various obstacles that go along your way on the play by moving the controller from right to left.
Though the basis of Respawn seemed to be as legit as other leaks, Games Radar explained the assumption of Respawn and said that 'Starblaster' is not PS5's launch title but a part of Sony's web development kit.
Starblaster is not ps5's launch game
According to Games Radar's Leon Hurley, the full line name "snei-ember-cli-starblaster" that they saw on the website is actually the name of Sony and a command-line utility.
"Based on where and how the name appears on the page - as well as many other pages on the PlayStation website - it's not a game, but a part of Sony's web development kit," writes Games Radar.
As explained, the first letters, such as SNEI, refer to the company, Sony Network Entertainment International. The 'Ember-CLEI' is a command-line utility that holds Javascript apps for websites while the 'Starblaster' word is what likely seemed to be Sony's web development kit.
PS5 leaked information
Though the said major leak might just have been a terrible word interpretation, Sony fans are now demanding more information about PS5 since its main competitor Microsoft had already put out most of its Xbox Series X' details.
Sure enough, PS5 will be launched on holidays 2020, and people are expecting a lot from Sony.
