There is some speculation that the Microsoft Surface Hub 2X release date will not be this 2020, and that may be true, Windows Central reported. It said that Microsoft intends to launch the Surface Hub 2S instead, as the 85-inch variant of the much-anticipated device.

Problematic OS Seemingly to Blame for Delays in Launch of Surface Hub 2X

The Microsoft company had initially broadcast back in 2018 that it was planning on a Microsoft Surface Hub 2X release date in 2020. Windows Central said that the problem with the release of the device could be attributed to difficulties that the company had encountered in developing the Windows Core modular OS. Though embarrassing for Microsoft, the company has not decided whether to halt all development on the Microsoft Surface Hub 2X completely or to pursue it until launch.

Windows 10X to Be Integrated with Surface Hub 2X?

The Windows Core modular OS, which was being developed under the code name "Aruba," was canceled as early as December 2019, revealed windowscentral.com contributor Sean Endicott (quoting Bowden in the January 31, 2020, issue of windowscentral.com). Bowden announced that Microsoft might let the Surface Hub 2X device be integrated with the Windows 10X system instead when it is finally launched. However, the company might opt to change the name of the Windows 10X system to another before it is released to the public.

Surface Hub 2S 85-Inch Version to be Launched in 2020

The delays in the Microsoft Surface Hub 2X release date was noticeable because Microsoft had made it a point to introduce it to the public with much fanfare. The device was originally being developed as a conferencing tool for business but was being upgraded to offer new features, such as display rotation and tiling. Earlier, in June 2019, Microsoft had released the Surface Hub 2S, priced at $9,000 initially. The Microsoft Surface Hub 2X was supposed to be much bigger (measuring 85 inches) than the 50-inch Surface Hub 2S. The company will still be launching the 85-inch version of the Surface Hub 2S this 2020. This year will also see the launch of the Surface Hub display as an independent unit.

Windows 10 20H1 OS Part of Major Windows Update For Surface Hub 1 and 2S?

In addition, Microsoft would like to supply a "major Windows update" for its conferencing devices, namely the Surface Hub 1 and Surface Hub 2S this year, relying on the Windows 10 20H1 OS for computing capability. These would offer the "I.T. management, integration, and deployment capabilities" for the conferencing devices. The OS itself will have Microsoft support until the year 2025, which might indicate that users will not have to submit to semi-annual feature updates.

However, aside from the Microsoft Surface 2x release date disappointment, Microsoft will also not be releasing its cartridge initially expected for the Surface Hub 2S this 2020 due to possible compatibility issues encountered, revealed All About Microsoft contributor Mary Jo Foley in the zdnet.com issue for February 2, 2020. This was not the official statement of Microsoft officials, though, and the report was based on the author's insider contacts.
