Simply put, there are certain games that just bring out the competitor in everyone. Games like Halo and Call of Duty may be what comes to mind nowadays, but back during the Nintendo 64's heyday, there was one title that started more fights than any other: Mario Kart 64.
While Mario Kart 64 still holds its power over anyone who grew up playing it, the question remains: will someone who's never played the N64 classic be just as engrossed as the game's original audience? The team over at React wanted an answer to that question, and they definitely got one:
Considering these kids were all familiar with the basic Mario Kart formula, it makes sense that it would go more smoothly than their previous Mega Man run. In all honesty, the kids do relatively well. While there's no drifting, shielding, or other 'high-level' techniques used, it's not as if they're placing 7th and 8th in every race. Plus, Mario Kart 64 is noticeably stiffer than later entries; the kids did well enough with what little practice they had.
Then again, watching Jeannie squander her accidental shortcut over the Wario Stadium wall after being hit by a Blue Shell is still pretty tough to watch. It doesn't help that she got hit by the same Blue Shell twice in a row, either...at the very least, she still won the race, but that doesn't make it any less painful to watch.
