Doomguy will have new weapons to aid him in killing demons for the upcoming game Doom Eternal.

In a new trailer from Bethesda Softworks , the series' protagonist Doomguy (or Doom Slayer, as he is called in the reboot games) wielding all kinds of weapons while shooting and slashing away at hordes of demons. This includes an awesome-looking sword called The Crucible, which the Doom Slayer finally has access to right from the start.

The trailer also established the plot of 'Doom Eternal,' which takes place two years after 2016's 'Doom' reboot. The Doom Slayer returns to Earth to rid it of demons in a bid to save humanity.

Doom Eternal's The Crucible Gameplay

The Crucible is a sword of immense power that can absorb large amounts of demonic energy. It was first introduced in the previous game 'Doom', released in 2016. It appeared in multiple hallucinations of the Doom Slayer, who bore witness to its power. The Doom Slayer would later find the weapon in The Necropolis, and use it to stop the influx of demons in the Martian UAC Base in the game's climactic last level, Argent D'Nur.

No matter how powerful The Crucible was, players were only able to use it for a short while in the original game. The trailer teased the sword, possibly pointing to much more extended use of the weapon in the second game. The overpowered weapon will make clearing off hordes of demons so much easier.

Doom Eternal Release Date and Delays

'Doom Eternal' was first announced during E3 2018, where the producer and creative director Marty Stratton and Hugo Martin teased players that the game will have twice as many demons than the game the preceded it. With the new plot details revealed in the trailer, we saw the throngs of demons infesting Earth. It makes sense, given that Earth has become overrun by demons, while in the first game, only had demons invading Mars coming from Earth.

During that time, the game was slated for a November 22, 2019 release. However, the release got delayed. It was originally planned to release all versions of the game simultaneously across all consoles, but the Nintendo Switch port will be released later than the other console versions instead.

'Doom Eternal' will be released for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Google Stadia on March 20. The Nintendo Switch version will ship at a much later date, but still within the year.

Doom Eternal New Game, New Engine

'Doom Eternal' will be made using the new id Tech 7 engine, which promises to deliver higher geometric detail and more destructible demon body parts. The software was first announced during Quakecon 2018, which makes 'Doom Eternal' the first game to be developed with the engine.

The new engine improves upon its predecessor by delivering better images, featuring unified HDR lighting and shadowing, and makes the code more efficient by eliminating more than a million lines of source code.
