Sony made a shocking announcement when it mentioned to the Games Industry Biz website on Jan.13 that it will not attend the Electronic Entertainment Expo or E3 2020.
The said tech event, one of the most-awaited and prestigious gaming conventions in the world, is scheduled for June, and sadly, Sony is not planning to be part of E3 2020, just like what they did back in 2019. This means that this will be the 2nd time wherein Sony company will be backing out from the event.
E3 is known for its hosting of annual events held in Los Angeles that features different tech gadgets related more to gaming. Back then, huge companies like Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo were the first ones to confirm their attendance at the event to showcase their new upcoming consoles or gadgets to be released soon.
This is one of the reasons why E3 plays a major role in tech companies since the glimpses of the new gaming consoles from the three significant companies are usually seen first on this event.
So, why would Sony back out from E3 2020?
'We Do Not Feel the Vision of E3 2020' Says Sony
Since a lot of tech fans and experts already made negative comments regarding Sony's absence on E3, the company already released a statement to clarify their reason for not showing up to the event.
According to them, they are final on their decision to back out on joining E3. As mentioned by a Sony spokesperson, "We have great respect for the ESA as an organization, but we do not feel the vision of E3 2020 is the right venue for what we are focused on this year."
"We will build upon our global events strategy in 2020 by participating in hundreds of consumer events across the globe. Our focus is on making sure fans feel part of the PlayStation family and have access to play their favorite content," added by Sony.
Will Sony Launch Playstation 5?
Since Sony will not attend E3 this year, it is expected that the company will not yet release further information with its new gaming console called Playstation 5 or PS5.
As of now, Sony has just revealed the logo design for PS5, just like what it did in previous years. No other added information regarding new specs or which games will be compatible with PS5 consoles that have been mentioned.
Fans anticipated that Sony will show it all on E3, but the company seemed to be thinking other plans for PS5's grand launch.
"We have a fantastic line up of titles coming to PlayStation 4, and with the upcoming launch of PlayStation 5, we are truly looking forward to a year of celebration with our fans," said Sony.
Xbox Series X Will Show Up on E3 2020
Meanwhile, after Sony announced the sad news, Microsoft's Phil Spencer immediately confirmed to his Twitter account that they will not do the same decision as Sony's and fans of their gaming consoles will expect that their presence will be there on the show.
"Our team is hard at work on E3, we look forward to sharing with all who love to play what's ahead for us. Our artform has consistently been propelled by the cross-section of creativity and technical progress. 2020 is a milestone year in that journey for Team Xbox," tweeted by Spencer.
Still, maybe Sony's planning on something greater for this year, though no one knows this yet.
