Utah Woman Who Inspired Sarah McLachlan Dies from Cancer

The woman who inspired Canadian singer Sarah McLachlan and countless other people lost her battle with cancer.

On Dec. 31, 2014, Kathy Taylor died in her Bear River home in Utah after she was diagnosed with an aggressive form of melanoma when she was 26 weeks pregnant with her sixth child.

Kathy and her husband, Nathan, also blogged on kathysmiracle.com about the practical experience that Kathy and her family were facing.

In 2007, the Utah mom was diagnosed with stage 1 melanoma. Kathy underwent a simple excision and lymph node biopsy, and doctors believed that she did not have the cancer anymore. However, in 2014, while Kathy was pregnant again, she was advised that the cancer had come back.

Kathy refused to take cancer treatment, fearing it would affect her unborn child. Her son, Luke, was prematurely born in September 2014 by about 14 weeks but died just within a couple of weeks due to an infection.

The 34-year-old mother asked only for her family to be comforted, for her final days to be peaceful, and for courage to face the tragic road ahead.

Kathy revealed on her blog that she could not walk properly. She also had difficulty breathing in her last days. However, she wanted her family to be at peace and to take courage while she knew she was dying. She also wanted to die a peaceful death without experiencing a lot of pain.

"I pray to die peacefully without pain but don't know if that will be granted so I'm hoping Christ continues to sustain me and keep me from having fear and anxiety. So far he has done this and I am grateful, while I still sense the intense looming future ahead," wrote Kathy on her blog.

On Dec. 24, she wrote in her blog that she wanted to spend time with her family on Christmas day.

"Kathy's desire was to make it past Christmas, for the kids. In our case, God let it happen," wrote Nathan.

Kathy's story also drew a lot of attention and inspired Sarah McLachlan to donate the proceeds from her song "I Will Remember You" to Kathy, which would cover the medical costs.

McLachlan also assisted Kathy to put her own version of the song on iTunes.
