Toss a coin to your favorite witcher, humans! After season 1 ended with a doozy cliffhanger, we know you are fervent to know what's next for our monster-hunter Geralt of Rivia, our kickass sorceress Yennefer of Vengerberg, our precious Ciri of Cintra, and of course, our beloved Roach the Horse.

If the first season only just scratched the surface, can we expect things to be bigger, bolder, and better in the next? As a wise witcher once said, "Hmm..."

Everything We Know So Far About The Witcher Season 2

Before we proceed to the predictions, here's everything we know so far about the second season of this hit Netflix Original:

  • According to Variety, the production will begin early 2020, and the release will be scheduled in 2021.
  • Speaking to SFX, showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich teased that the show could run up to seven seasons.
  • In an interview with Digital Spy, Hissrich said that season 2 will be more intense: kingdoms will start rising to the surface, and the building blocks that were presented in the first season will start making sense.

Top The Witcher Season 2 Predictions

We traversed through the Continent to hunt down the answers to questions that have been bugging our Witcher hearts since we saw the last episode, Much More. Coming right up are our The Witcher season 2 predictions to keep your mind busy as you await the release of the second installation to this fantasy epic:

Where Will Geralt and Ciri Go?

While the Nilfgaard's army seems to have lost the Battle of Sodden Hill, Cahir, Fringilla, and the other enemies are still at large, which means Ciri is still in danger. To fulfill his destiny of protecting the Princess of Cintra, Geralt will probably bring her Child of Surprise to Kaer Morhen, an old keep where he trained as a witcher.

In the books, part of a witcher's duty is to create more witchers. Seeing that Ciri is about the same age as the brown-haired young Geralt who was left at the doorstep of Vesemir to undergo his mutations, this prediction is very likely to happen in the next season.

What Are Ciri's Powers?

At the season finale, Ciri asks Geralt who Yennefer is even though she hasn't seen or even heard the mage's name spoken out loud before. The reason for this is probably because Yen and Ciri were connected through their powerful Elder blood, and when Yen unleashed her chaos during the battle, Ciri's magical senses were tapped and awakened.

As for her powers, it was established in the first season that Ciri's scream could rip the earth apart. But the rest of her abilities remain a mystery. In the penultimate episode, Ciri went into a trance and recited a prophecy from Ithlinne, an elf who has a psychic ability to see the future. Based on this scene, we could predict that the rightful heir to Cintra's throne has a future vision, too.

After Yennefer unleashed the full potential of her magic to defend the Northern Kingdom against the Nilfgaard's army, she disappeared from the scene, leaving Tissaia's calls for her unanswered. In the books, Yen was actually blinded during the battle, so she may have to adjust to her loss of vision when we see her again in the next season.

Remember when it took Game of Thrones' Stark siblings (including Jon Snow) six seasons to reunite after they last saw each other in the series premiere? Because The Witcher is rumored to run for seven seasons, we probably won't get a taste of the much-anticipated union of our lead trio until the fourth season onwards.

As Hissrich confirmed, the team has no plans of using all of the book's source materials too quickly.

"Right now it's just about, 'How do you set up stories that really capture audiences for years at a time?'" she said. "The worst thing we could do is put all of our energies just into season one, and not be thinking about where these characters can grow to."

Meanwhile, we get a feeling that Geralt and Ciri will go on a journey to find Yennefer to confirm if she's still alive after the Battle of Sodden Hill. In fact, we think this will be the plot thread that will run the entire second season. If this is true, we'll have to wait until 2021 to find out.

In the meantime, you can binge-watch these Netflix originals coming in January to fill the void created by The Witcher's white-knuckled season finale.
