Now that it's the season of holidays and family gatherings, expect that there will be millions of times that you will receive tons of messages, calls, or notifications from your long-lost relatives up to strangers you do not know from grade school. Once this happens, one thing that stops us from being too bombarded with anonymous messages is to hit that 'Do not Disturb' feature from your smartphones.
However, since this feature totally disregards each and every message you received, there will also be times that 'emergency' and more important messages-- that you badly need to read-- might not get passed on that 'Do not Disturb' fence. So the question is: Is there a way for you to enjoy the peace and quiet time without receiving any messages or calls but at the same time only received calls from important persons?
Luckily, there are steps you can do to resolve this problem.
How to Lock Your Phone From Calls and Messages Without Totally Locking it?
For iOS and Android users, 'Do not Disturb' is an essential feature that everyone loves to use, especially when the holiday starts to strike. Not that people like to hide on someone, but this might also be the time for families to stop thinking about other things that smartphones always remind us-- few working emails or messages from your boss.
And here are the steps for you to lock your phone without totally locking it for 'important' persons. A reminder, though, the steps to customize these 'Do not Disturb' depends on what you are using, whether iOS or Android.
For iOS Users
If you only want few people to know you're available for the holidays, first, you need to add these people to a special Favorites list tab. To go to this feature, open your iPhone, click the Favorites tab, then tap the 'Plus' sign located in the top-left corner on your phone. In this you can add a few people depends on you that may disturb you even for the holidays.
Once you got your favorites picked, you can now go to 'Do not Disturb' sign in the settings of your phone, in which you can manually enable via top toggle switch--you can also automatically at certain times via the Scheduled option and set on certain times.
You can also take your favorites picked using iCloud on the web rather than using your phone. Just click the Plus button and go to the New Group tab for you to drag your contacts easily. By then, you can change the name of your group to identify your emergency contacts easily.
For Android Users
If you're an Android user, just tap the Settings, go to Sound, then go to Do not Disturb sign. To manually adjust your settings, tap Turn on now and use Scheduled option to allow this feature on certain times only.
Once you got this right, you can now go to Calls tab, then go to Allow Calls and shift to 'From Starred contacts only' to allow Android to adjust 'Do not Disturb' for your emergency set of contacts.
After this, you're good to go!
