2014 Chevrolet Camaro Z/28 is a sweaty and expensive beast: Here's why (Photos)

General Motors has announced that the 2014 Chevrolet Camaro Z/28 will go on sale in the spring of 2014 and will have a suggested retail price of $75,000.

The company said that the $75,000 retail price of the car includes $995 destination charge but excludes tax, title, license and dealer fees. Even with a hefty price tag, the car does not come with air-conditioning and stereo. Customers can opt to add a single available package priced at $1,150 that adds air conditioning and a total of six audio speakers. The standard Z/28 package includes one speaker.

The automaker announced that the new Z/28 will be offered in five exterior colors: Red Hot, Black, Silver Ice Metallic, Ashen Gray Metallic and Summit White.

"The Camaro Z/28 is an uncompromising performer that's bred for the track — and every one of its unique components supports the goal of faster lap times," said Mark Reuss, President of General Motors North America. "It takes the Z/28 back to its racing roots and adds to the strong lineup of Chevrolet performance cars, including a revamped Camaro SS and supercharged ZL1, as well as the SS sedan, Corvette Stingray convertible and 2015 Corvette Z06, which we'll introduce at the North American International Auto Show next week."

The high-performance Camaro Z/28 has a hand-built 505 horsepower 7.0-liter V8 engine and a six speed manual transmission. When compared to the Camaro Z/28, the company's own Camaro ZL1 has a high power engine output of 580 horsepower and is priced around $20,000 less than the Camaro Z/28. The Camaro ZL1 also comes with air conditioning and stereo as standard.

However, the Camaro Z/28 went around Germany's Nürburgring racetrack four seconds faster than the Camaro ZL1. Moreover, the company claims that the Camaro Z/28 also beat published times for the Porsche 911 Carrera S and the Lamborghini Murcielago LP640.

The Camaro Z/28's engine is quite powerful when compared to other cars in its category. An expensive price tag may deter interested buyers, but the power of the car may still attract the wealthy ones.

Customers can order the Camaro Z/28 towards the end of January and delivery is expected in spring.
