Valve's reveal of Half-Life: Alyx reinvigorated hacking efforts by Valve fans to see what else the game developers have in store for the future. Their tinkering around didn't go to waste, as they have struck gold uncovering a new Left 4 Dead game in the works.
But this new game won't be a proper sequel to Left 4 Dead 2. Hence it won't be a Left 4 Dead 3 game. Instead, it follows the footsteps of Half-Life: Alyx, entering the world of Virtual Reality gaming.
Left 4 Dead VR
The Valve News Network found files pertaining to an upcoming Left 4 Dead VR game. This is the second leak related to Valve's upcoming games, which started with the leak revealing Half-Life: Alyx before it was officially announced. Nothing is concrete yet, but Valve News Network may share more information in their upcoming video on their Youtube channel.
Left 4 Dead is a popular multiplayer game where a group of up to four survivors could work together in fighting against a horde of zombies. The success of the original led to the creation of a sequel, which was released in 2009. It would remain popular for LAN parties among friends over the next decade, with fans clamoring for a sequel.
The Elusive "3"
Just like Dota 2, Half-Life 2, Team Fortress 2, and Portal 2 Left 4 Dead 2 was never followed with a third game. We don't know why Valve is so allergic to the number three, and we don't even know if their aversion is something they're even aware of. Heck, there's even already an unofficial "Dota 3" map made for Warcraft III: Reforged, the HD remaster of Warcraft III: Frozen Throne game by Blizzard Entertainment, from which Dota 2 was derived from.

Thankfully for the fans, Valve isn't one to drop the beat when it comes to their games. Even though they haven't been as prolific as other gaming studios, they have at least been consistent in the quality of their releases.
Valve VR
This would be the third game Valve is making that is specifically for a VR experience. The first came with Portal Stories: VR which added ten puzzles to the Portal lore, designed with VR in mind. The second is Half-Life: Alyx.
Valve has also flirted with the idea of flirting their existing games to the VR platform. Team Fortress 2 can actually be played using the Oculus Rift and other VR devices. Dota 2 also has a VR theater experience, although you can't play the game using your VR headsets.
Details on how Left 4 Dead will translate to the VR world is still unclear, and we might have to wait for the Valve News Network to share more details regarding this. Meanwhile, Valve hasn't acknowledged the leak yet. But based on their reaction with Half-Life: Alyx leaking, it's only a matter of time until Valve revealed their cards.
