Every gamer around the world anticipates The Game Awards to see if their favorite game made the cut. Headed by the Dorito Pope Geoff Keighley himself, The Game Awards is a celebration of all the great video games that came out the previous year. It also honors outstanding people who have contributed to the medium, in further pushing what video games can deliver.
But that's not the only thing The Game Awards is known for. It is also a hotbed of trailers, sneak peek into what's coming the following year. Last year, we all saw trailers for Anthem, Devil May Cry 5, Far Cry New Dawn, and The Outer Worlds, all of which were released this year.
Courtesy of notorious anonymous messaging board 4chan, we might have an idea what's dropping this year. According to the leak, we are going to see Batman Arkham Legacy, a Crash Bash remake, Resident Evil 3 remake, Banjo-Kazooie remake, PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale 2, Tony Hawk's ProSkater 1 and 2 remakes, Metroid Prime Trilogy for Nintendo Switch, Sly Cooper 5, Grand Theft Auto 6, Gameplay footage for Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2, and Phoenix Wright as the latest character for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
Breaking the rumors down
We already know that Resident Evil 3 Remake is real. It's dropping on April 3, 2020 for Xbox One, PS4, and Steam. They might reveal the trailer again for The Game Awards, or finally show us what Nemesis looks like in this new take on a classic horror game.
Batman: Arkham Legacy seems like the most realistic rumor out there. Warner Brothers Montreal has been silent ever since they released Batman: Arkham Origin in 2015. We already know that they're working on a Batman game and recently just hinted something on their Twitter account, which just became active after four years.
Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2 was teased back in E3 2019, and might be coming to the Nintendo Switch this 2020. The first Breath of the Wild was released in March 2017, If the sequel releases in the first quarter of 2020, then it would have been three years since the first one, which is on par with current development time trends in The Legend of Zelda series.
We can assume that Grand Theft Auto 6 is already in the works over at Rockstar, with Red Dead Redemption 2 having been released on consoles last year and on PC recently. If the game does come out in 2020, it would have been six years since the last Grand Theft Auto title. There are rumors that GTA6 is targeting the next generation of consoles too.
We can also see Phoenix Wright coming to Super Smash Brothers Ultimate. The series' home has been Nintendo's handheld consoles ever since its inception. As such, a lot of gamers associate the game with Nintendo consoles (even if the games are available in other platforms).
Sly 5 is a possibility if Sony decides that the franchise is worth revisiting. The series was originally developed by Sucker Punch Productions, but the studio has been hard at work with their Feudal Japan-set action game Ghost of Tsushima. Sly 4 was developed by Sanzaru Games, but they released a statement in 2014 stating that they were not developing any future Sly Cooper games.
The Crash Bash remake seems likely too, as there's only one popular party game right now and it's a Nintendo exclusive. The previous Crash remakes have been successful so far, and it wouldn't surprise us if Activision decides to continue with remastering Crash titles.
Metroid Prime remake is one of the most requested remakes out there, and seeing it on the Switch would make many Metroid fans happy. We can't say if Nintendo has been considering this, but it wouldn't surprise us if they did.
The Banjoo-Kazooie and Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale 2 are highly unlikely. The demand for both games isn't as high, with Sony's take on the multi-franchise brawler failing years ago and with Banjoo Kazooie not having any a single game or remake in 10 years. But you can't really dismiss anything nowadays.
