Keanu Reeves will be reprising his roles in two film series in the upcoming summer blockbuster season. First up, he will return as the titular John Wick for the fourth time. Secondly, Reeves returns to his role as Neo from the Matrix franchise for a currently untitled Matrix 4 movie.
The fun part is that both films will come out on the same day, May 21, 2020. Those who are big fans of Keanu Reeves will have a great day, that's for sure.
Return to the Matrix
Currently, Warner Bros. hasn't been vocal about what the new movie will be about. We're sure that it won't be a reboot, as lead writer Zak Penn already clarified on his Twitter account. Both Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss will reprise their roles as Neo and Trinity, respectively. However, it's still unclear where in the timeline the movie will fall, with some rumors suggesting that the film will actually be a prequel.
Thankfully, even if the rumors were true, Reeves and Moss both have youthful appearances. Meanwhile, a younger Morpheus is rumored to be portrayed by Michael B. Jordan. Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, who played Cal Abar in the 2019 HBO series Watchmen and Black Manta in the 2018 Aquaman movie.

John Wick 4 was already confirmed even while John Wick 3 was in theaters, so we know a lot more about Keanu Reeves' other film than what we know about the fourth Matrix movie. With the third movie closing out with a heavily-injured John Wick, the fourth film will see him working with the man who took him in in that state - the Bowery King, played by none other than Laurence Fishburne.
Wick and the Bowery King will be working together to bring down the Adjudicator, the High Table, Winston, and Charon - everyone who has been responsible for setting him up to be shot on top of the Continental. With how the third movie handled its twists and turns, viewers will keep on guessing who really are Wick's allies and enemies. These questions will be answered in the upcoming film.
John Wick is in The Matrix?
Although John Wick and The Matrix films were made by different studios, there are speculations that John Wick is actually within the Matrix universe. Starting with the cast of characters, we already have both Neo and Morpheus working together in John Wick 4. Speculations are further fueled by Warner Bros. announcement that The Matrix 4's release date will coincide with John WIck 4.
If that were true, it would be a very interesting, although difficult and complicated twist to execute. How they'll make it happen would be something to look forward to. But that's if the two movies are in fact connected, as we only have rumors for now. The rumors haven't even been acknowledged by any of the show's cast, writers, or crew members. But with how things are going nowadays over at Hollywood, nothing's impossible, so we're still keeping our fingers crossed.
