Who you gonna call? No, not the kids from the Stranger Things.
For all the fans out there that already watched the newly-released trailer of Ghostbusters: Afterlife, you might have observed some similarities of the classic film to one of this generation's biggest science fiction horror TV series, Stranger Things. However, if you are one of the people that do not quite understand what's the fuss about. Here are some major observations from Ghostbusters: Afterlife's trailer and the said look-alike of the film, Stranger Things.
Ghostbusters: Afterlife Released Teaser Trailer
Sony Pictures Entertainment recently released the official movie trailer of the sought-after third installment of the 1984 classic fantasy comedy film, Ghostbusters. With its new title, Ghostbusters: Afterlife that will be shown on July 10, 2020, revolves around the story of two children that moved in the suburbs called 'Summerville' along with their single mom. The two children were played by young actors McKenna Grace (who also played the role of young Captain Marvel) and Finn Wolfhard (Mike Wheeler in the Stranger Things).
Discovering that they will live in an old house originally from their grandfather, it starts the different experiences they were about to discover that involves ghosts living inside their house and a basement that has a lot of anti-ghosts equipment used by their grandfather-- that said to be Egon Spangler, one of the three original Ghostbusters.
Though the concept of the film still focuses on hunting ghosts and a shocking comeback of the original ECTO-1 Cadillac-- Ghostbuster's original vehicle from the 1984 film-- there were many critics saying that this year's Ghostbusters might not be as comedic as the original one nor as flopped as Paul Feig's version. In fact, it has a lot of similar vibes with Stranger Things.
Ghostbusters vs Stranger Things: Why Compare?
Nobody compared Stranger Things to Ghostbusters this bad until now.
The same kid from Stranger Things
What makes this year's Ghostbusters so different from the classic one-- and other reboots-- is the major fact that kids are the main protagonists of the film. However, it's not just a normal actor kid but Finn Wolfhard from Stranger Things. Maybe this is the main reason why a lot of Ghostbusters and Stranger Things' fans compared the two as the main leads of both films were, in fact, the same person.
Stranger Things: The Movie? More Like Ghostbusters: Afterlife
Aside from the actor, one main observation that most fans have seen is that it has a lot of Stranger Things vibes on its sleeves. From the beginning of the trailer wherein they were about to discover a creepy happening in their house up to the seriousness feels of the trailer-- explains why a lot of fans compare the two.
Ghostbusters: Afterlife Still Aims to be Original
Out of all the comparisons of the film with Stranger Things, there are still major factors that we can say that Ghostbusters: Afterlife has its original take inspired in the original film.
The film was directed by Jason Reitman
If you are a true fan of Ghostbusters the Movie, you would know that Jason Reitman is the son of the original director of the franchise, Ivan Reitman. This means that this film might be more Ghostbuster-y compared to its other inspired films since a Reitman directed the sequel.
Comeback for Other Original Ghostbusters
Since Harold Ramis-- the actor that originally played as Egon Spangler died in 2014, the film was said to take Bill Murray and Dan Aykroyd as cameos for the film, though there's not yet announcement regarding this.
It's Paul Rudd
Paul Rudd, known as Marvel's Antman, seemed to be one of the original stunts offered by the Afterlife. Rudd is the teacher of the two children who explained the history of Ghostbusters in the past.
