"Imagine you're crying out that your design & ideas, years of work & piece of your heart are stolen by your worst enemy but then smb [somebody] ignorant doesn't give a damn about your pain," said Ukraine's Foreign Minister Vadym Prystaiko.
These are the words posted by Ukraine's Foreign Minister Vadym Prystaiko on his Twitter account about the recent mishap of Apple company on their devices.
As reported via CNN, Apple is currently at a backlash from Ukraine after the company marked Crimea—a disputed territory—as part of Russia. This stirred a controversial issue between the company and the countries involved, especially since the territorial ownership of Crimea is still an ongoing debate for years now.
Russia and Ukraine's Battle for Territory
In 2014, Russia annexed Crimea from Ukraine that drew international condemnation from the countries. After this, continuous fights between the two countries were reported on which they said that there were a lot of Russian forces sent in the conflict zone to fight against Ukrainian soldiers.
The 'stealing' of Crimea from Ukraine became a major issue in the international government that the United States even described this as 'illegal' and imposed economic sanctions from the government.
The Look from the Apple Map
As checked by CNN, the land of Crimea was confirmed to be enlisted as part of Russia on Apple's map application. However, this can only be seen whenever you are in Russia or Crimea.
The different thing when you are inside the land of Ukraine or other countries, the map will change and put Crimea under no country. Apple map also shows no international border between Russia and Ukraine.
This huge mistake of Apple became a pot of speculations on whether the company was being paid or 'forced' by the Russian government to put the name of Crimea under theirs.
This was then revealed by the chairman of the Security and Anti-Corruption Committee of the State Duma, Russia's lower house of parliament, on their official website.
'We got what we wanted'
Committee chairman Vasily Piskaryov announced that they already 'got what they wanted' after pressuring Apple to identify Crimea as part of Russia on their Apple maps.
"Our situation with Apple has now been resolved. We see that everything has happened the way we wanted it. We will continue seeing to it that there is no going back," said Piskaryov.
This reaction made a feisty fury from Ukraine and said that Apple company should not be meddling with politics.
"Seriously, though, @Apple, please, please, stick to high-tech and entertainment. Global politics is not your strong side," said Prystaiko.
Different Reactions from 'Crimea Mistake'
Ukrainian Embassy in Washington stated on Facebook that they "immediately urged the leadership of the US company Apple to correct the false designation of Crimea as part of Russia in the company's applications."
Even Garry Kasparov, Soviet-born former world champion chess player and the chairman of the New York-based Human Rights Foundation, shared his disappointment with Apple by saying that this issue is "a huge scandal" and must be fixed quickly.
As of now, Apple is not yet giving their statement about the issue.
