Samsung seems to be planning to follow up on their S10 with a successor less than a year after its release. Earlier last month, leaks revealed that the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S11 will be coming in the third week of February. In the latest set of leaks, those in the know are alleging that the S11 will also come in larger screens, and some models will even be able to connect to 5G.
Screen Saver
The Samsung Galaxy S11 will also be coming in three variants: the regular S11, the toned-down S11e, and the luxury S11+. They will all have larger screens compared to their predecessors. The S11 will have a 6.7" screen, 6.4" will be on the S11e, and the S11+ will have a 6.9" screen. On average, the S11 will be 0.6" larger than the predecessor.
We don't know the S11's resolution yet, or the quality of the LED screens will have. Likely, they'll just build on the S10 models who currently have dynamic AMOLED touchscreens. However, there are reports that Samsung will be veering away from their ill-fated fingerprint scanning technology, and will instead work on better facial recognition features.
Twitter user Blass, who leaked about the larger screens, also leaked that the S11 will have curved-edge displays for all versions of the S11.
Facial Recognition
Twitter leakster Ice Universe tweeted that the upcoming S11 will make use of a new 108MP ISOCELL HMX camera sensor. The second-gen sensor will allow the S11 to have better facial recognition features.
The previous version of the 108MP camera sensor that Samsung developed alongside Xiaomi for the Mi Mix 4. The 108MP camera sensor used a pixel-merging Tetracell technology that compresses four pixels into one, producing brighter 27MP images.
The camera will also allow users to video record lossless for up to 6K resolutions at 30FPS.
Connecting to the Future
There's not a lot of applications for 5G so far, but Samsung fans should be reassured that the company's preparing for their devices' future connectivity functionalities. Blass also revealed that the S11 and the S11e will both come in 4G and 5G variants.
However, for the premium S11+ will launch 5G-only. Although there aren't that many users for 5G now, TeleGeography's GlobalComms Forecast Service says we might see 1.9 billion 5G users by 2025.
Processor
The upcoming Samsung Galaxy S11 will make use of yet-unannounced Qualcomm Snapdragon 865. The S10 is currently running on 855, so it's not really surprising for the S11 to follow through with their newer device. The 865 is based on the 7nm EUV-based fabrication process and is benchmarked to be on par with octa-core SoC (System-on-Chip) on 1.8GHz.
This goes against earlier rumors that Samsung's new Exynos 980 SoC will be powering the S11. The Exynos 980 will be relying on four Cortex A55 cores for low performance and four Cortex A77 cores for high performance.
The Samsung Galaxy S11 looks great based on these rumors, but we're yet to confirm any of these. It'll take some time before we find out the actual specifications of the Galaxy S11, but it doesn't look like it's going to be a long wait.
