'Red Dead Redemption 2' Now Out on PC, Plagued by Crashes

Rockstar Games has launched the highly anticipated Western-themed open-world game Red Dead Redemption 2 on PC, which is the first time for the franchise, yet it did not go as smoothly as planned as crashes plague the game and some can't even get past the loading screen.

Errors and Crashes

According to Polygon, two main problems seem to pop up frequently, according to the players.

The first has something to do with Rockstar Games' launcher, which they released in September, as upon launching Red Dead Redemption 2, it would show a popup box saying there was an error and that the game "exited unexpectedly."

For those who have launched the game, the second issue happens almost immediately as they can't get past the loading screen and would crash.

CNET also noted that some players have reported that they got a message saying that activation is required.

Rockstar Games to the Rescue

Rockstar Games has been silent earlier on their social media pages, but eventually, they have broken the silence announcing they are actively working on a solution for the problems, and that they have created a new support page after the initial one that doesn't seem to be working and only suggested that players update their GPU drivers.

However, not all had some problem as there are still those who were able to launch the game and play it—but they also reported that they had noticed some stuttering and there are also frame rate issues.

TechRadar has tried almost everything to fix the game and run it, such as a clean reinstallment of both Nvidia and AMD graphics drivers, as well as running Red Dead Redemption 2 as an administrator, but to no avail.

But some seemed to have been able to get past the problems by turning their antivirus software off or excluding some files from the game from inspection.

As of now, fans who are still having issues playing the game can try out the solution provided by Rockstar Games on the new support page.

Before Buying the Game

Before buying or running Red Dead Redemption 2 on your computer, make sure that it follows at least the minimum requirements, including a GTX 1060 graphics card, or RTX 2060 for 4k60.

Red Dead Redemption 2 on PC is available through the Epic Games store or Rockstar Game's launcher.

The game will also be available via Steam starting this December, although there is no exact date as to when it will happen.
