Acer has unveiled a new all-in-one (AIO) PC that can serve as a monitor to a Windows 8 PC as well as operate as a standalone full-fledged Android tablet. The new Acer TA272 HUL, primarily a 27-inch display with a maximum resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels, also runs on Android 4.2.
TA272 HUL is powered by an Nvidia Tegra quad-core processor, and comes with 16GB of onboard storage, a USB 3.0 port, HDMI, a DisplayPort input and an integrated 2-megapixel webcam.
The monitor, which is a 10-point touch screen, can be titled anywhere from 30 to 80 degrees for desired view. Since the AIO PC is Windows 8 certified, one can also take the full advantage of the touch screen features of Windows 8 once it is connected to a CPU via its DisplayPort.
The apps on the PC can also access the network even when TA27 HUL i not connected to a CPU, thanks to its dual-band 802.11 a/b/g/n wireless connectivity.
Acer said the AIO PC will give owners access to its proprietary cloud computing service called Acer Open Platform that lets people create their own private clouds for accessing music, photos and other media on different devices.
The TA272 HUL Android AIO costs $1,099, which is at least $100 more expensive than a similarly spec'ed Acer monitor that does not run on Android (T272 HUL). More information is available at Acer's online store and other third-party retailers, as the product is already shipping around the world.
