Speculation about Microsoft's forthcoming Surface Laptop revision is already abuzz with rumors. The latest one yet suggests a 15-inch Surface Laptop 3 variant is in the works.
Microsoft is expected to refresh the Surface Laptop line next month, and now new rumors say the company may release its biggest Surface Laptop yet.
Surface Laptop 3 Rumors
Despite the beefed up display, WinFuture reports that Microsoft will be sticking to the same 3:2 aspect ratio found on older Surface Laptop models. The company is also expected to unveil a version that comes with an AMD chip, but it's not clear if this option will be available on the 15-inch version, the smaller one, or both.
If this rumor turns out to be true, Microsoft risks cannibalizing another one of its devices — the Surface Book. At present, the company offers both 13.5- and 15-inch variants of the Surface Book 2, and the only way to buy a Microsoft laptop bigger than 13.5 inches is to opt for the Surface Book 2. If a Surface Laptop with a 15-inch display were to come out, people may gravitate to that instead, as they'll have the benefit of getting updated internals, as well. According to The Verge, Microsoft won't be unveiling a Surface Book 3 at its event next month, making this potential competition within Microsoft's product portfolio even more plausible.
Other Rumored Microsoft Devices To Be Unveiled At Event
There may be more surprises at the event than initially thought. Apart from a new iteration of the Surface Laptop, Microsoft is also poised to unveil a new Surface Pro 7 that comes with USB Type-C support. It's also tipped to introduce a Surface device powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon chip. Also at the event, it's believed Microsoft will tease its own dual-screen Surface and Windows plans.
Nothing mentioned above have been confirmed. In other words, they're no better than pure speculation and rumors, and therefore must be taken with a grain of salt. Given how likely rumors turn out true lately, however, there might be some substance here. Microsoft's even event will take place on Oct. 2 in New York City.
