Telegram introduced several updates that will allow users to send text messages or media without a sound notification.
Telegram is the 11th most popular messaging app in the United States with a unique user base of 2.67 million per month. As of last July, it was the eighth-most popular global messaging app with 200 million monthly active users.
Low-Key Messaging
Among the new updates to the end-to-end encrypted chat app includes Silent Messages. This feature allows the silent delivery of messages regardless of the notification settings on the recipient’s app. This means that even if the Do Not Disturb mode is not enabled, the recipient would still get the message without a sound.
To use this feature, users can simply hold the send button to have any message delivered sans the sound. This would be helpful when sending and receiving messages during a meeting or a class, or in situations wherein unnecessary noise is not allowed. This feature also works in groups chats. Telegram said this new update brings more peace of mind.
Effectively Follow And Manage Group Chats
Another new update, the Slow Mode, is a new feature for group chats. It allows a chat admin to limit people to sending one message for a certain interval. A timer will show how long group chat members have to wait before sending the next message.
For example, the admin can set the sending limit to message every 30 seconds. This can be helpful when a group chat becomes too busy or is difficult to follow. This feature will also prevent users from texting too often in a group chat.
“Slow Mode can make conversations in the group more orderly while raising the value of each message. Keep it on permanently, or toggle as necessary to throttle rush hour traffic,” Telegram posted in the update announcement on its blog.
This feature is necessary for the messaging app that allows up to 200,000 users to join a group. Group chat owners can also start setting custom titles for chat admins. To access this feature, go to edit admin rights in Group Settings.
Animated Emojis And More
Users can also start accentuating messages on Telegram with animated emojis complementing the animated stickers that are more high quality in resolution compared to static ones. The Sticker Setting also offers a toggle option for looped playback. When this feature is disabled, animated stickers will play just once and then stay still.
As for Android users, the attachments menu was improved visually, allowing larger thumbnails and a grid view that will make choosing of photos and videos for attachment easier. Swiping up will show Gallery for easy browsing while scrolling left and right through the other attachment option can select other files and media.
iOS users, on the other hand, can now set accent colors for the night themes. More color options are available aside from the usual black and blue color schemes.
