CES 2015: Alcatel to Unwrap Affordable OneTouch Watch to Rival Apple Watch

The Alcatel OneTouch Watch is one of the smartwatches that people attending the CES 2015 in Las Vegas can expect to see. Bearing an elegant design akin to Apple's smart watches but priced at a reasonable rate, the OneTouch Watch claims that it has ushered in a new category of smart watches aptly labeled "the affordable smart watch." Alcatel plans to offer the watch at a fraction of the price of other popular names in the smart watch industry.

Designed with a number of choices and styles, the new Watch will feature sensors and apps that will enable the wearer to easily monitor his daily activities. When connected to an Android device, the wearer can begin to manipulate music, take snapshots, receive notifications and perform many other tasks. As a whole, the Watch will have the features that one can usually find in the current smart watches.

"It looks like a watch and feels like a watch but it's much smarter than that," said Alcatel OneTouch in a press release.

Actual specs of the Watch are yet to be disclosed. Based on the press images, the Watch is designed with a round face. It also seems to have an outer ring and a circle on the inner portion, which gives an impression of having a "flat tire" section with an ambient light sensor akin to the Moto 360's.

Apart from the Watch, Alcatel OneTouch is also announcing its new range of smartphones from the Pixi lineup that support 4G LTE and are said to be OS-agnostic. There will be four available variants from the Pixi 3 range wherein all of the devices are said to be compatible with popular mobile operating systems such as Firefox, Android and Windows Phone.

"Our users do not want a complicated system; they want something familiar from their work environment in the office, but also on a smartphone," said Dan Dery, chief marketing officer of Alcatel OneTouch.

The Pixi 3 series will range from a pocket-friendly 3.5-inch version to a larger 5-inch model. The three models, the 4-inch, 4.5-inch, and 5-inch, will have both 3G and 4G LTE connectivity. The 3.5-inch version will have 3G connectivity. Lastly, the series will also feature an easy way for the users to customize it and is also pre-loaded with the best and popular applications.

Pricing details of the Watch and the Pixi 3 series are still unavailable. If Alcatel's claim is true, the Watch would cost cheaper than the Apple Watch and the Samsung Galaxy Gear.
