Concept Art from the Alien Movie That Never Was

Many fans of the Alien film franchise felt cheated after the release of Prometheus, and felt that the film could have been better with a different director at the helm. What if that person, though, was Neill Blokamp, who directed both District 9 and Elysium?

Now we know what Blokamp's Alien film might have looked like, thanks to the director taking to Instagram and Twitter last night and posting concept art he created based on the franchise.

And the good news? This concept art features Ripley (Sigourney Weaver) in all her alien butt-kicking glory.

The bad news? This art was never for an official film and Blokamp never worked with 20th Century Fox on this concept.

That's a pity, too, because these images show a film that might have been better than Prometheus, especially now that we see Blokamp bringing Ripley back and forcing her to work with a scarred Hicks (Michael Biehn).

Was working on this. Don't think I am anymore. Love it though. #alien #xenomorph

Woulda rocked. Was a mental stroll into the world Ridley Scott created.

Blokamp's concept appears to take place right after Aliens and seems to look inside the mysterious Weyland Corporation, something we haven't really seen on film yet.

Instead of Blokamp's vision, though, we got Ridley Scott's Prometheus, a prequel to the Alien films, which means that there's no Ripley, who, according to fans, is one of the best things about the franchise. And we're getting a follow-up to that movie soon, whether we want it or not, also directed by Scott.

Speculation about Prometheus 2 states that the new film will pick up where the previous film left off. Scott will also recently announced that he will introduce a new alien in the sequel.

"The alien's real which is why it's probably one of the scariest monsters in film history," says Scott. "So with Prometheus 2 what I'm trying to do is re-introduce a fresher form of alien in the third act."

Only time will tell how both fans and critics will respond to this new alien and this new film. For now, though, we have Blokamp's art that gives us something nice to think about and ask the eternal question, "What if?"
