The New Year's resolution is one of the more dreaded traditions of starting off a new year. You want to choose a resolution that's creative and not cliche but one that you're going to be able to stick with until Jan. 1, 2016. It's a whole thing.
But imagine how hard it is to settle on a New Year's resolution if you are one of the most famous people on the planet. There must be an enormous amount of pressure to choose a New Year's resolution that's really going to make an impact. If you're in the public eye, you pretty much can't fail at your resolution either because everyone will know about it.
Perhaps this is why Facebook founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg is crowdsourcing suggestions for his New Year's resolution for 2015 on his Facebook page. In a message posted yesterday, Zuckerberg asked his Facebook followers to give him inspiration for his "personal challenge" of 2015, as The Verge pointed out.
"For background, every year I take on a challenge to broaden my perspective and learn something about the world beyond my work at Facebook," Zuckerberg wrote in the post. "I have an idea of what my next challenge might be, but I'm open to more ideas before the new year officially begins."
And when Zuckerberg says "personal challenge," he means "personal challenge." These are not just New Year's resolutions to lose weight or be better with money as most people pledge to do in the new year (yeah, I'm looking at you). Oh no.
Past "personal challenges" of Zuckerberg's include learning to speak Mandarin, meeting one new person a day who doesn't work at Facebook and not eating meat unless he killed the animal himself. Yes, Zuckerberg does put all of our New Year's resolutions to shame.
Seeing how creative Zuckerberg has been in the past with his "personal challenges," you now understand why he needs help deciding on one for 2015. You've still got time before 2015 starts to write a comment on the post with your idea. So far, some interesting suggestions include trying a different drug every day, helping the homeless, getting into politics, shutting down Facebook and ending all of the Candy Crush Saga requests on Facebook. Now that's a "personal challenge" I think we can all get behind.
