Rockstar Games is set to roll out a new Red Dead Online update.
It's bringing in improvements here and there, particularly for the recently added hostility system. Most notably, it's coming with new Offensive and Defensive Playing Style options.
Red Dead Online Update
In a blog post, the studio outlines the upcoming changes making their way to the multiplayer component of Red Dead Redemption 2.
The Offensive Playing Style is pretty much the same as the current "free roam" mode. Meanwhile, the Defensive Playing Style is where things become different.
Described as an "evolved version of the Passive Mode concept," the mode allows players to roam and explore, as they can't be lassoed by others. However, once they lasso another player, they'll be removed from the mode and even get penalized with an increase in hostility level.
Also, players in defensive mode won't be able to lock on to other players, but in exchange, others can't lock on to them either. They can't get critical hits as well, and headshots won't kill them. That way, they'd get a good chance to survive and escape to safety.
"Some players just want to immerse themselves in the world, riding, hunting and fishing in peace. We want to offer these options while allowing players to coexist comfortably alongside other players in the world," the developer says.
As for the hostility system, players will be able to defend themselves and kill attackers without incurring penalties. In other words, they won't get hostility increases just for acting on self-defense.
The update is expected to launch sometime during spring.
Fishing Challenge
Rockstar Games also released a new update for the Red Dead Online beta that includes a fishing challenge.
As the event's name suggests, players will compete with one another and are tasked with catching more fish than the others. The challenge varies, with three kinds of bodies of water: Lakes, Rivers, and Swamps.
On top of that, there are some new limited-time items available from the Wheeler, Rawson & Co Catalogue, including the Gator Hat, Ortega Vest, Woodland Gloves, and Pelt Half Chaps.
A 30 percent XP boost on animal hunting is live this week too. Additionally, there's also a Fishing Care Package available via lockbox at the camp or the post office, and it contains five Live Crickets, one River Lure, one Lake Lure, and one Swamp Lure.
