Google is working on a second-generation Glass Enterprise Edition, if recently leaked photos are to be believed.
The augmented-reality wearable didn't exactly take the world by storm when it first launched in 2014, which was discontinued in 2015, but it eventually carried on in the form of an Enterprise Edition geared toward businesses in 2017. Now it seems that the company is getting ready to update the device.
New Google Glass
The leak comes courtesy of the Brazilian website Tecnoblog, and the photos themselves come from Anatel, which is the Brazilian FCC equivalent, according to Engadget.
For starters, the most noticeable change is the USB-C port for charging, and it's replacing the magnetic cable the previous version used.
It's unclear whether it's really the second-generation Google Glass Enterprise Edition in the photos since they're leaks, after all. However, one image does show a sticker that says it's "GG2," which presumably stands for "Google Glass 2."
Back in November, 9to5Google said that it's going to be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 and 3 GB of RAM and run on Android 8 Oreo. Regarding connectivity, it'll support LTE, Bluetooth 5.0, and 802.11ac Wi-Fi. It's also said to sport a 32-megapixel camera that's capable of recording 4K videos at 30 fps or 1080p videos at 120 fps. In contrast, the earlier model had 2 GB of RAM and an 8-megapixel sensor.
AR Business
Assuming these photos are true, it appears that Google is focusing on enterprise customers with its AR wearable technology. This move is similar to what Microsoft is doing with its HoloLens 2.
At that, the changes lend credence to the authenticity of the leaked images, particularly the USB-C port, since a fast-charging option makes more sense than the magnetic charging system in a work environment where functionality is more of a priority than aesthetics, as The Verge points out.
