LG is said to launch a new smartphone that has an attachable second screen. It's expected to be the LG G8, the South Korean manufacturer's upcoming flagship for 2019.
Two Screens Are Better Than One
As reported by CNET, LG is working on a handset that's compatible with an optional second screen attachment, citing a "person familiar with the situation." According to the person, the accessory will be a case with a display and could double the screen size.
It's unclear whether the smartphone in question is going to be the LG G8 or not. At the moment, it isn't named just yet.
No Folding, No Rolling
Folding screens are starting to be the next big thing in the mobile phone industry, aside from the punch-hole camera, that is.
For one thing, Samsung is said to be getting ready to unveil its first foldable phone alongside the Galaxy S10 at its Unpacked event on Feb. 20. On top of that, there's the Galaxy A8s, its first handset with a pinhole on the screen, which it calls Infinity-O.
However, LG isn't following the trend, despite the initial rumors that it's following suit via the Korean website Naver, which CNET points out. For the record, the screen also won't be rolling up, like the LG Signature OLED TV R.
Now there's no word on how exactly the attachment is going to add a second screen to the mix, but at any rate, it could stand out from the pack.
LG is reputed to be one to try strange or eccentric designs, so fabricating an attachable secondary display isn't farfetched for the company. This is evidenced by the modular LG G5 and its "friends" and the LG G7 ThinQ and its Boombox speaker, to name a few.
The LG G8 or whatever it's going to be is expected to be one of the many phones that are going to be unveiled at the Mobile World Congress.
