At the Game Awards, Nintendo made a bombshell announcement that almost shut down the internet — Joker, from Persona 5, is heading to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, the hit combat title recently released on the Nintendo Switch.
Close on the heels of that shocking reveal, it seems Nintendo might have a few more surprises in store. For quite some time, players have been speculating hard about which characters are going to be added next to the Ultimate roster, and though the game features the most number of characters on any Super Smash Bros. title ever, there has been overwhelming suspicion that Nintendo isn't quite done yet.
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Character DLC Rumors
Some rumors have suggested that particular favorites, such as folks from Banjo Kazooie, Rhythm Heaven, and perhaps even Waluigi himself, are arriving via a forthcoming DLC. Nothing has been confirmed thus far, of course.
However, an alleged leak suggests that the second downloadable fighter for Ultimate would be coming from the Dragon Quest series.
The tidbit comes from Persona Central, featuring a report originally translated from text board 5Channel. It suggests that Erdrick, an iconic character from the ultra-popular RPG series from Square Enix, would be joining the party. Below is the translated information:
• Erdrick
• Stage is Alefgard
• Erdrick (Male) and Erdrick (Female), 2 colors each of Anlucia and the Dragon Quest XI Hero
• Slime appears on screen with a skill
• Achieved through active collaboration on Square's side
• To the benefit of overseas marketing for the DQ series
The report also suggests that both male and female versions of Erdrick would be included in Ultimate.
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
Masahiro Sakurai, the director, has said the DLC roster for Ultimate would surprise fans, and Erdrick definitely fits the bill. For one, he's from another series altogether, and although past iterations of Super Smash Bros. have included characters from third-party franchises, it's still a delight when non-homegrown fighters arrive.
That being said, take everything mentioned above with a grain of salt as they're all still technically rumors. Legitimate leaks are hard to come by on the internet these days, especially since anyone imaginative and crafty enough to use photoshop can generate a fake leak and have it perpetuated by frantic fans willing to believe anything they hear. In any case, make sure to check back with Tech Times as we learn more.
