Google has replaced its chief executive officer in the cloud business slump.
Diane Greene, chief executive of Google's cloud business, will serve until January of next year. However, she will still retain her position as director for Google's parent company Alphabet.
According to CNBC, Green's replacement is due to disappointing results in the cloud business. When Greene took over the role of Google Cloud three years ago, Silicon Valley hoped that Google Cloud would break the existing territory of Amazon and Microsoft. However, Google's cloud market share remained at around 6 percent. Amazon Web Services still holds a dominant position with 34 percent of the market, Microsoft is second only at 15 percent, but Google is behind IBM — both at 7 single digits.
According to NYTimes Diane Greene, whose pursuit of Pentagon contracts for artificial intelligence technology sparked a worker uprising at Google.
In a blog post published by the firm, Ms. Greene said she had initially told friends and family that she was planning to run Google Cloud for only two years but stayed for three.
