Chris Evans Ready To Put Down Captain America Shield After Finishing 'Avengers 4'

Chris Evans has finally decided to put down his shield as he retires from his role as Captain America in the Marvel films.

The actor has astonishingly played as the iconic superhero in numerous films, with Captain America: The First Avenger, as the first one. Evans portrayed one of the original Avengers alongside Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man, Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow, Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye, and Mark Ruffalo as Hulk.

The Avengers is part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and all its films have become international blockbusters. It started with 2008's Iron Man. Evans' first film connected to the Avengers was released in 2011 and is the fifth movie in the series. However, it was not his first Marvel film, as he appeared in 2005 as Johnny Storm in Fantastic 4.

Evans has just wrapped up shooting for the fourth installment of Avengers, which is also Marvel's 22nd film, and he tweeted that playing as Captain America was something he considered as an honor.

"It was an emotional day to say the least. Playing this role over the last 8 years has been an honor," he wrote.

"To everyone in front of the camera, behind the camera, and in the audience, thank you for the memories! Eternally grateful," the actor added.

Evans As Captain America

The actor reprised his role as Captain America in The Avengers, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Captain America: Civil War, Spider-Man Homecoming, and Avengers: Infinity War. He also had cameos in other Marvel movies. He will be returning as Steve Rogers in the upcoming Avengers film, which is still untitled and set to be released on May 2019.

"You want to get off the train before they push you off," shared the 37-year-old actor to New York Times about his plans to bid goodbye to his role.

Many of Evans' and Marvel's fans also expressed their sadness on Twitter about the actor's farewell. One person said it was an honor to grow up watching his films, and his character was one of the kindest heroes. Another fan also stated that there will be no other Captain America like him.
