Colin Jost, Kent Sublette, and Michael Che are confirmed to return as the co-head writers for Saturday Night Live season 44.
The three prolific writers assumed the same role in the hit show's last season, however, former senior writer Bryan Tucker is leaving his post. Tucker has worked for SNL for more than 10 years. He started on his co-head writer post in its 39th season in 2014.
SNL Head Writers
Notably, Che was promoted for the role last season. Additionally, Jost was promoted to co-head writer with Seth Meyers in 2012 before he left. Jost and Che also co-anchor the show's segment "Weekly Update".
Furthermore, Jost was the co-head writer for the NBC hit comedy show in 2011-2012. However, he left his job prior to the season on 2015-2016. He also became a part of the show's comedians as the co-anchor for the "Weekly Update" four years ago.
Che joined him the year after, followed by Sublette in the show's 2016-2017 season.
Achievements Of The Show
The show garnered an astounding seven Emmys during the Creative Arts Emmy Awards to all lead shows. Its episode with Donald Glover, otherwise known for his stage name Childish Gambino, also picked up several wins. This year, SNL was nominated 21 times.
Additionally, Saturday Night Live has gotten the top spot for the most awards in Emmy History for Outstanding Original Music and Lyrics. It won its third Emmy in the said category this year for "Come Back Barack," which was written by Chris Redd, Will Stephen, Eli Brueggemann, and Kenan Thompson.
The song pays tribute to 80s and 90s R&B groups and sends a message to former President Barack Obama to return to his post that is now taken by Donald Trump.
Furthermore, Tiffany Haddish also won her first ever Emmy Award as Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series after she had hosted an episode of the iconic show. She beat other past SNL hosts such as Maya Rudolph, Molly Shannon, and Tina Fey who was also nominated for hosting SNL's season finale.
Additionally, the show has not confirmed if there will be any additional co-writers for its new season. The show has also been keeping its premiere's host and musical guests under wraps.
Saturday Night Live Season 44 will air on Sept. 29. Additionally, Jost and Che will be hosting the annual Primetime Emmy Awards on Sept. 17. The awards show will air on NBC.
