OnePlus 6T Leak Reveals 2 Features Copied From Oppo R17

A new OnePlus 6T leak revealed that the highly anticipated smartphone will copy two prominent features found in the recently announced Oppo R17, the latest flagship device from OnePlus' sister company.

The two features will likely only add to the popularity of the OnePlus 6T, which is expected to arrive this fall with a relatively low $550 price tag despite flagship-level specifications.

OnePlus 6T Leaked Features, Copying The Oppo R17

The retail box of the OnePlus 6T was uploaded on Chinese social media. The box, if it is the real deal, reveals more information about the OnePlus 6 successor.

The OnePlus 6T box features familiar markings, including the OnePlus logo, but looks rather plain from the outside. The interesting images are the ones that show the inside of the retail box, which apparently features the OnePlus 6T design.

It is unclear why OnePlus decided to print the OnePlus 6T design at the back of the lid. The image, if authentic, shows that the OnePlus 6T will have a "waterdrop" notch and an in-display fingerprint scanner, both of which were part of the Oppo R17 announcement last month.

The smaller notch is a significant change from the wider notch seen in the OnePlus 6, perhaps as a compromise for users who are not fans of the display design. It appears that the OnePlus 6T notch will only contain a camera sensor, and also looks like it will be shorter in height compared to the OnePlus 6 notch.

The bottom part of the image, meanwhile, shows a fingerprint icon on top of text that says "Unlock The Speed." Oppo has been using in-display fingerprint sensors for a while now, and it looks like the feature will be arriving to the OnePlus 6T before it launches on the Samsung Galaxy S10.

A closer look at the interior of the OnePlus 6T box's lid reveals that usernames from the OnePlus forums were printed on it. This is a nice gesture of gratitude from OnePlus to its loyal customers.

What Else Do We Know About The OnePlus 6T?

The leaked retail box does not reveal any OnePlus 6T specifications, but the smartphone is widely expected to be powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 845 and at least 6 GB of RAM.

OnePlus has been teasing that it will hold an event on Jan. 15, 2019, but the OnePlus 6T is expected to be announced much earlier. According to a previous report, the OnePlus 6T release date will be in October, and that it will be a T-Mobile exclusive in the United States.
