Florida Woman Dies After Crack Pipe and Bottle Removed from Vagina

A 31-year-old woman who had been using drugs since she was 12 years old died this week at a hospital in Florida after doctors removed a glass pipe that she hid inside her body.

April Rollison, from Sebring, Florida, was arrested on Dec. 16 for drug charges and was brought to the Polk County Jail. There, a body scan revealed that she had a glass pipe and a glass bottle with 2 grams of cocaine placed inside her vagina.

Alerted of the drug paraphernalia hidden inside Rollison's body, the jail staff took her to Bartow Regional Medical Centre to have the materials removed from her.

Upon arriving at the hospital, Rollison asked to go to the toilet, but while a nurse was getting a bed pan for her, officials believe that she removed the bottle containing cocaine from inside her private part and ingested some of its contents.

A cop, who accompanied Rollison to the hospital, went behind a curtain so she could have some privacy. A nurse later found a bottle and a white substance on the toilet floor eventually identified as cocaine.

"While the nurse was getting the bedpan ... she was able to remove it from her personal area," said Scott Wilder, a spokesman for the Polk County Sheriff's Office.

After medical staff removed the crack pipe from her private part and cleared her, Rollison was taken back to the county jail but became sick during booking. She was then brought back by the Polk County Fire Rescue to the hospital, where she remained in critical condition and eventually died on Monday morning.

The Sheriff's Office said that Rollison was found positive for amphetamine, cocaine and methamphetamine. It is not yet clear though whether the crack got absorbed into the woman's system through her stomach or other ways but an autopsy to be conducted by the Medical Examiner's Office is anticipated to shed light on the cause of her death.

Rollison also had an extensive history of arrest involving drug charges. Her family members said that she had been hooked on drugs since she was 12 years old and that they did not have any contact with her for quite some time.

Prior to her death, Rollison was charged with possession of cocaine and drug paraphernalia. She was also charged for bringing contraband materials into jail.
