Google took the world by storm on Wednesday after revealing that its Google One Service will be available for U.S. users in the coming weeks.
Throughout the previous months, Google has been continuously working on transferring current Google Drive patrons into One users to provide them with an upgraded storage space. Previously, Google Accounts were allocated with a 15 GB of free storage wherein they can store a myriad of work documents as well as photos, videos, and spreadsheets.
VentureBeat notes that One is just a predecessor to something big in store for Google that will eventually put them neck-and-neck with competitors such as Amazon Prime. Earlier, Google offered YouTube Premium and YouTube Music subscriptions. Just today, Google announced that they will be granting benefits to Google Store and Google Express Shopping service.
Google One Service Scraps 1 TB Plan
Previously, Google grants users with a 100 GB plan for $1.99 per month and a 1 TB plan that charges users $9.99 a month. Users also have the option to expand their space to as much as 30 TB for the price of $300 per month.
However, with Google One, users will now accumulate a 200 GB plan for $2.99. Google One is also set to scrap the 1 TB plan, but those who have already paid to avail of such service will be upgraded into the 2 TB plan for the same price. All the bigger plans and the free 15 GB ceiling will remain intact.
Google Faces Stiff Competition
Regardless of its upgrade, Google is still facing cutthroat competition with some of the most popular storage spaces like Apple iCloud and the Microsoft OneDrive. iCloud sells a 50 GB storage for $0.99 a month, 200 GB for $2.99, and 2 TB for $9.99.
On the other hand, Microsoft OneDrive has a 50 GB plan that is available for $1.99 per month and 1 TB and 5 TB options that charge users $6.99 and $9.99 per month, respectively. Both plans are also supplied with an access to Microsoft Office.
One Service To Incorporate Family Sharing
Google One Service will also offer a family sharing feature wherein the main account holder can send an invitation to family members. Up to five family members can use the single plan, with each one being allocated with their own respective personal storage space.
Elsewhere, Google is also granting discounts to Google One Service customers who are booking hotels via Google Search. The company mentioned that users will be granted 15 percent and 40 percent off bookings regardless of what hotel they pick.
