Once again, Samsung lived up to its billing as the creator of the world's greatest OLED smartphone displays.
The South Korean electronics company's latest product, the Galaxy Note 9, broke several records as it received the highest grade from DisplayMate, the industry standard when it comes testing displays, monitors, projectors, mobile displays, and HDTVs.
DisplayMate also looks into other display technologies, including LCD, OLED, 3D, LED, LCoS, Plasma, DLP, and CRT. It is being used by hundreds of publications for editorial testing and lab reviews.
Galaxy Note 9 Receives Highest Ever Grade
The Galaxy Note 9's OLED display earned the highest ever A+ grade from DisplayMate, which called the product's Absolute Color Accuracy as "visually indistinguishable from perfect."
In a review written by DisplayMate president Dr. Raymond M. Soneira, the Galaxy Note 9's display was described as the "most color accurate display we have ever measured."
The review also mentioned the drastic improvement of Galaxy Note 9's High Brightness Mode. Compared to the Note 8, the latest version is 27 percent brighter and 32 percent higher in contrast, with its peak luminance hitting 1,050 nits when Automatic Brightness is switched on.
The Galaxy Note 9 also set a new record in terms of Color Accuracy and Intensity Scales and received outstanding grade when it comes to Viewing Angle Performance, including the small shifts in brightness and color.
The Galaxy Note 9 tallied a Screen Reflectance score of 4.4, matching the grade that the Note 8 got from DisplayMate. The score was the lowest measured by DisplayMate for a smartphone.
In summary, the Galaxy Note 9 accolades include setting record in terms of Very High Absolute Color Accuracy (0.5 JNCD), Brightness Mode, Peak Luminance, Color Accuracy and Intensity Scales, Small Shifts in Brightness and Color with Viewing Angle, and Smartphone Display Performance Records.
