There are a number of Android apps that allow users to set specific songs as their alarm, but only a few can integrate with Spotify. Finally, Google is making it a lot easier to pick a song from one's Spotify library and set that as the alarm.
Thanks to its updated Google Clock app, users will now be able to connect their Spotify accounts and wake up to their favorite songs each day.
Google Clock Spotify Integration: Requirements
It doesn't matter if the user is a Spotify Free or Premium subscriber. It will work just the same. In the new clock app, users will now find two new tabs for setting alarm sounds: "Sounds" and "Spotify." After navigating to the Spotify section, users can either pick songs from a bunch of morning-themed Playlist Spotify itself curates or choose music that they have recently listened to through the app. They can also tap the floating search icon to look for a certain song.
While Google's latest blog post was written by a member of the Pixel team, the company assures that the feature will be available to all devices running Android Lollipop or higher. Sorry, KitKat users, you're out. Make sure to download the latest versions of Spotify and Google Clock, of course.
Now, it might seem a bit weird that Google is using Spotify for this feature. Why not use its own music service instead? Don't worry: Google says YouTube Music will soon be integrated into Clock as well, although it did not mention whether Apple Music will make its way over too. That seems fairly unlikely, though — Apple Music doesn't even work with Chromecast, so don't count on it.
Google Clock App Gets Spotify Integration: When Is It Rolling Out?
The feature will roll out globally over the course of the week. So if everything goes to plan, users will be able to wake up to the soothing — or grating — sounds of their preferred alarm tunes. There are a number of apps in the Play Store, both free and paid, dedicated to setting up alarms and sleep tracking, and while Google Clock isn't as sophisticated as them, Spotify integration certainly gives it a fine edge. Hopefully, other music services make their way soon.
Thoughts about the Google Clock app getting Spotify integration? Do you wish Apple Music would come later as well? As always, if you have anything to share, feel free to sound off in the comments section below!
