LG V40 ThinQ Rumored To Arrive This October With Triple-Camera System

Apple or Samsung may be at the top of the flagship pile, but LG still shouldn't be overlooked. Sure, its G5 was sort of a disappointing attempt at modularity, but the subsequent phones — the G6, V20, V30, G7 ThinQ — have all been excellent because they did away with gimmicks.

Because its recent phones have all been highly praised, it's only natural for LG enthusiasts to ponder about what's next in line. Now, new details about this upcoming flagship have surfaced, thanks to Korea publication ETNews.

LG V40 ThinQ Release Date

The report mentions a release window for the phone, which apparently is going to be called the V40 ThinQ. LG is aiming to launch this device around the same time as the annual electronics trade show Internationale Funkausstellung Berlin, or IFA, in Germany. Sales will start domestically in October. The report specifies the release date as Oct. 5, which if true would put the launch just days after Google likely announces the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL.

The report also mentions that LG is focusing on the cameras. The device will apparently get a 20-megapixel, 16-megapixel, and 13-megapixel triple-camera combo on the rear — one primary, one wide-angle, and one telephoto. There will also be dual front-facing cameras for 3D face recognition. That pretty much lines up with previous reports suggesting the V40 will have five cameras. If true, the device is set to become one of the few phones that sport a triple-camera system, much like the Huawei P20 Pro.

In terms of design, LG is said to be lowering the screen-to-body ratio even further, eliminating the bezels to the point where 90 percent of the front panel is just screen. By contrast, the G7 ThinQ has a screen-to-body ratio of 83 percent, while the V30 just has 81 percent. Interestingly, the report says LG will implement a bezel-less design that's "different from the conventional," although it's not clear exactly what this means.

LG V40 ThinQ Specs

Very little, if any, information about specs is currently available, although users can expect flagship-level specs for this device. A 4 GB or 6 GB RAM should be standard, and the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 will likely power this device. Expect up to 256 GB of internal storage, with expandable storage a likely possibility. Those are pure guesswork, however. But given the specs sheets of most flagships today, that can't be pretty far off from the official list.
