Warner Bros. Studios and Legendary Entertainment have released photos from the upcoming film, Godzilla: King of the Monsters, the sequel to 2014's Godzilla film.
Godzilla, The King oF The Monsters
The second installment directed by Michael Doughtery features a new cast except for actress Sally Hawkins and actor Ken Watanabe who are both reprising their roles.
Entertainment Weekly, which revealed the new images, also spoke with Doughtery on what to expect in this new film. Doughtery said that in the film, the world will react to Godzilla in the same way it would react to any terrifying incident.
The director, who has also worked on the films Krampus and Trick r Treat, continued that the monster Godzilla has not been seen since the previous film. However, there is speculation and paranoia if he is the only one of his kind.
New Monsters
The sequel will also bring other legendary monsters from the iconic series, including King Ghidorah, Mothra, and Rodan. According to Doughtery, this new movie gives Rodan the spotlight it deserves after years of serving as Godzilla's sidekick.
Godzilla: King of The Monsters will star Mille Bobby Brown, Vera Farmiga, Kyle Chandler, Bradley Whitford, Thomas Middleditch, Charles Dance, O'Shea Jackson Jr., Aisha Hinds, and Zhang Ziyi.
Farmiga portrays Dr. Emma Russell who is a scientist working for the Monarch and Brown portrays her daughter, Madison. In the film, the two leading ladies will be kidnapped by an unknown organization and Russell's ex-husband (Chandler) will have to rescue them. The sequel will be released on May 21, 2019.
Following this, Legendary Entertainment is looking to start development for the film, Kong vs. Godzilla. Kong vs. Godzilla will take place after the two Godzilla films and Kong: Skull Island.
It hasn't been announced if Kong's appearance will be mentioned in King of the Monsters. Doughtery did state, though, that the movie will have "breadcrumbs" alluding to the upcoming showdown.
