A Splash of Miracle: Dog Survives Fall from 15th Floor Apartment in Sacramento

A 13-year-old dog named Sam miraculously survived after falling from the 15th floor of a Sacramento apartment.

Bill McCourt, Sam's owner, revealed that his Boston terrier is partially blind. Sam has been going to the balcony every day since McCourt moved into the Bridgeway Towers' apartment about three years ago. However, McCourt does not know what happened on the day Sam fell, but he thinks that the dog may have been confused with the balcony railing.

Sam fell past a man who was drinking coffee on the 8th floor and straight into a Jacuzzi full of water. A couple of workers went out after hearing a loud splash. One of the workers identified Sam and called McCourt's mother who normally looks after the dog when McCourt is away.

"My first thought was he must have got out and taken the stairs or the elevator or something," recounted McCourt's mother. "But there's no way he could have gotten out of the condo. All of a sudden, I knew. It hit me immediately: he fell."

When McCourt's mother reached downstairs to collect Sam, she saw that the dog was walking with a limp. The chances of the dog surviving such a brutal accident were low, but the woman thinks it was a miracle since there was no way, she thought, that the dog could have survived.

Sam, however, suffered some rib fractures and a cut on his rear, which had to be stitched. McCourt's mother took Sam to the VCA Bradshaw Animal Hospital where he is recovering well.

McCourt has had Sam since he was a five-week-old puppy. He says that there is no better gift than to have Sam alive and resolves never to let the dog out into the balcony again. Sam will have to sit by the door.

Tech Times reported in November how a window washer fell from an 11-story building. The worker, whose identity was withheld, landed on a moving car and survived. He suffered serious injuries but was still conscious following the fall.
