Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy Wasn’t Going To Be Ported To The Switch Until One Engineer Proved It’s Possible

Originally, there were no plans to bring Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy to the Nintendo Switch.

However, when an impassioned engineer proved it could be done, Vicarious Visions immediately realized a full port to the hybrid device was possible.

'Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy' For Nintendo Switch

For many years now, owners of Nintendo systems have been wishing for ports of classic Crash Bandicoot titles, but to no avail. Thankfully, sometime around the release of the N. Sane Trilogy remaster for the PlayStation 4, one engineer at Vicarious Visions spent a weekend trying to get the first level of the remastered title running on Switch. He managed to do so.

The company saw what he'd done and reacted positively to it, according to the Nintendo World Report. Thanks to him, Vicarious Visions decided to make a full port of the game on Switch, and now, a lot of Nintendo fans will finally get what they've always wanted.

The Difference Between PS4 And Switch Versions

Of course, the Switch version won't be identical to the PS4 version because Nintendo's handheld is less powerful than Sony's powerhouse home console. There will definitely be graphical downgrades such as Crash Bandicoot and other characters having less noticeable fur.

That being said, the game will still run at a smooth 30 frames per second, so it will more or less perform the same. However, it won't look as graphically dynamic.

The Switch version will also get a new level called "Future Tense," which was announced during E3 as a new, original stage designed by Vicarious Visions, meaning it wasn't in the original games designed by Naughty Dog. Based on previews, it's got conveyor belts, lasers, and more. Check out the trailer below.

Remastered Collection Receives Favorable Reviews

Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy is a collection of the first three titles in the Crash Bandicoot series: Crash Bandicoot, Crash Bandicoot 2: Cortex Strikes Back, and Crash Bandicoot: Warped, released on the PlayStation from 1996 to 1998. The games were rebuilt from scratch, but Vicarious Visions took advantage of Naughty Dog's original level geometry.

The remastered collection has received favorable reviews from critics, most of them praising its faithfulness to the original titles. It has sold over 2.5 million copies as of September 2017.

Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy comes out June 29 on PC, Xbox One, and Switch, a year after the game had been released exclusively on the PS4.

Switch, Xbox One and PC owners, are you thrilled for the trilogy? What was your favorite level from the original titles? Any thoughts on the new Future Tense level? As always, if you have anything to share, feel free to sound them off in the comments section below.
