Fans have a lot of questions after Blizzard's announcement of World of Warcraft Classic. Now, the development team shares information about its progress and more.
Some Prefer Vanilla
The game studio confirms several details about its upcoming revisit to Azeroth. First of all, fans should know that this version will not include any content from any of the series' expansions. It looks like a pure experience that will welcome new players and take veteran gamers to trip through memory lane.
Since there were several patches that followed after the original game launched, a lot of users would like to know which ones will be included. After months of speculation, the folks behind the game finally confirm that it will contain all of the balance changes and tweaks up to version 1.12
Before its official reveal at Blizzcon 2017, the developers continuously received requests to bring back the original version. In the video game business, it is a rare practice for companies to give in to requests and suggestions unless it affects gameplay. That's why it comes as a big surprise that Blizzard gave in to their demands.
Not Really A Straightforward Process
Players might assume that the work involved with the reintroduction of an already existing game is easy, but it is the total opposite. The official developer blog for World of Warcraft Classic shares some of the challenges that the studio experienced during its restoration.
It seems that the real reason why there was hardly any news about development in the last few months was the number of problems the team encountered. Rigorous testing was done to ensure that the current build will function as intended.
"Our initial runs exposed a few (expected) issues: the game sometimes crashed, didn't recognize our modern video cards, and was incompatible with our current login system. That first pass also couldn't support any of our modern security and anti-cheating capabilities," the developers wrote. "Clearly we had a lot of work to do to make WoW Classic live up to the Blizzard standard of quality, and deliver the experience players want," they added.
The Quality Expected By Players
For now, gamers finally learn a little more about Blizzard's plans for World of Warcraft Classic. So far, with the confirmation that everything up to patch version 1.12 is on board, the development roadmap is set. However, it does not mean that the rework will remain without the expansions until the end.
Meanwhile, even though the developers confirmed that the game will include everything that was available until the vanilla's final patch, some players are hopeful that minor changes made to enhance gameplay will be included.
