Ubisoft officially unveiled Assassin's Creed: Odyssey at E3 2018, showing how the franchise is building upon the success of the overhaul first seen in last year's Assassin's Creed: Origins.
Assassin's Creed: Odyssey will allow players to wield the legendary spear of Leonidas while also giving the choice at the start of the game between a male and female hero. Many other details have been revealed for the new Assassin's Creed game, which will surprisingly launch very soon.
'Assassin's Creed: Odyssey' Heroes And The Spear Of Leonidas
Ubisoft, which has previously confirmed Assassin's Creed: Odyssey and its ancient Greece setting, revealed that players will be able to choose between a male or female hero at the start of the game. There will be not much of a difference whether players choose Alexios or Kassandra, though, as the story remains that the player is a descendant of King Leonidas of Sparta.
Speaking of the Spartan king, Assassin's Creed fans should understand the importance of having access to the spear of Leonidas for the entire game. The first-civilization artifact has been at the center of the battle between the Assassins and the Templars. The spear of Leonidas may be broken in Assassin's Creed: Odyssey, but because the hidden blade was invented later on in the timeline, it effectively replaces that weapon.
'Assassin's Creed: Odyssey' Gameplay
Following the new equipment system and overhauled combat engine of Assassin's Creed: Origins, Assassin's Creed: Odyssey further refines the well-received changes. Among the improvements are additional skills that can be found to the controller's face buttons and a deeper experience with the character's gear.
Assassin's Creed: Odyssey will be the first game in the series with an interactive dialogue system, pushing the Assassin's Creed franchise further into the RPG genre. Making the return in the new Assassin's Creed game is naval combat and exploration, which was first seen in Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag. Players will also be able to participate in 150 vs.150 battles between Sparta and Athens.
The gameplay demonstration showcased at E3 2018 followed Kassandra, who was on a quest to assassinate a leader in the middle of the city to free the island of Mykonos from Athenian rule. The video showcases what players can expect from Assassin's Creed: Odyssey, including a minotaur.
'Assassin's Creed: Odyssey' Release Date
The official world premiere trailer revealed the Assassin's Creed: Odyssey release date, with the game set to launch on Oct. 5. It looks like the series is back to an annual schedule after Ubisoft took a hiatus with the franchise before Assassin's Creed: Origins.
